It’s International Women's Day on Tuesday 8th March and there are so many ways to support and spread the message of IWD 2022.

This year, the theme is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, emphasising the important role that women have in sustainable practices and fighting climate change.

Below we have listed a few local london events that highlight and celebrate the work, influence and importance of women in a range of industries, from art and entertainment to business and enterprise.

1. Women of the World Festival at the Southbank Centre - 11th-13th March

There’s nowhere better to go to celebrate International Women’s Day than the world’s biggest festival celebrating women, girls and non-binary people. Head to the Southbank Centre for three full days of events, from panel talks, networking and interactive workshops and even live performances!

There’s also workshops for kids, great if you want an educational and inspirational day out for the whole family. This year, guests include Angela Davis, Pandora Sykes and Grace Victory.

2. The Camera is Ours - Britain’s Women Documentary Makers

If you’re looking for something just as educational but a little bit more chilled out, the British Film Institute is showcasing a new film that highlights the work of female documentary makers.

Beginning with works from the 1930s and ending in the modern era, this collection of films highlights the work of females behind the camera of British film.

3. What She Said London x Female Narratives Panel - 8th March

Female collective and creative agency Female Narratives are teaming up with W London to host a panel and discussion between a wide range of female advocates exploring self-exploration and empowerment.

With a DJ set and a complimentary drink, this event promises to be empowering and entertaining. A great way to meet other female entrepreneurs and creatives in London.

4. International Women’s Day at the National Gallery 23rd Feb - 30th Mar

The National Gallery is celebrating the role of women in art with a selection of talks and courses looking at both artists and art historians and the role they have played in conjunction with the National Gallery.

5. Ridley Road Market - Independent & Inclusive Venue

If you’re up for a boogie, you should definitely head over to Dalston to visit the Ridley Road Market Bar. A community hub of East London, this venue has positivity at the forefront, putting emphasis on female and LGBTQ+ music, art and entertainment.

They keep it super accessible, with low prices and a positive, easy going atmosphere, making everyone feel welcome and comfortable.
