What You'll Need:
  • Scissors
  • 8mm bicone beads
  • Polyamide thread

Tips!

We recommend doing this in the daylight or under a reading light as the clear thread can be hard to see!

Step 1: Make the foundations

To make this decorative candlestick holder, you will need to make three ‘rings’ of 9x3 beads.

To do this you need to cut a length of polyamide thread approx 30cm long, thread 3 beads into the centre of the thread, then use one more bead to close the loop, repeating this 9 times to create this:

Step 2: Repeat to create a pattern

Once you have repeated this 3 times over to make 3 rings, you can now use more beads, I have used clear ones to create the striped pattern, to weave these rings together like so:

Step 3: Make the base

To create the base for the candlestick holder, you now need to take 3 beads and tie them together in a circle, like I have done with the purple beads here.

You then need to take 3 clear beads and thread these between the purple beads in the centre and the red beads around the edge to attach them together, closing the gap so your candle won’t come out.

Step 4: Steady the base

To make the base sturdier, you need to thread two rows of beads around the outside of the red circle. To do this, attach two clear beads to each red bead, in the same way the 3 purple beads were threaded together in the previous step.

In all previous steps the polyamide thread has been used with the beginning beads at the centre, but here you want to start with one short and long side, and weave your way around the circle like so (image a).

To make the second row of the base, you need to add one blue bead to each group of 2 clear beads, again creating clusters of 3 beads as shown in the previous steps, working your way around the circle. When this is complete, you can then weave 1 new blue bead between each blue bead already attached, just going round the circle like so (images b-d).

Step 5: Secure beads

Tie off any polyamide thread ends as you go, double knotting is enough to secure them, and then snip with scissors.

The finished candle holder.

And there you have it!

Hopefully you have now created a beautiful striped candlestick holder like this one.

Remember! When lighting the candle, make sure you don’t let the flame burn too close to the holder as these are plastic beads and will melt. Enjoy!
