Here in the UK, the clocks have finally changed, meaning we’re officially in British Summer Time. Summer is still far off, but we’re excited to have a spring in our step despite the unpredictable weather!
This week, we’re talking all things spring greens, letting you know what plants and produce that will be in season and how to use these in your food.
Here’s a list of veggies that are in season this time of year (until June) in the UK (via BDA). Look out for these in the supermarket; it’s a great way to support local farmers and reduce your environmental impact to eat and shop local.
- Artichoke
- Beetroot
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Chicory
- Cucumber
- Leeks
- Parsnip
- Purple Sprouting Broccoli
- Radishes
- Sorrel
- Spring Greens
- Spring Onions
- Watercress
We love companies like Oddbox that we have here in London - they’re a service that sends you fruit and veggies straight to your door, focussing on saving food that may have otherwise been disposed of. Look out for similar services where you are, or head to a local market or independent produce shop instead!
Below is a list of some of our favourite recipes that use some of these fresh ingredients.
