You may have noticed that we’ve updated the title of this weekly blog series, because here in the UK, restrictions have been lifted a little more with non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants opening up! Below we’re sharing some of our favourite London beer gardens, as well as some other things that we’ve been enjoying this week.
This Week's Discoveries - 16.04.21
A Festival in the Diary
Hands up if you didn’t think that festivals would happen this year. We definitely weren’t expecting to be booking gig or festival tickets, but we’ve got our eye on few now that things are opening up. If you’re in London, Pleasure Gardens in Finsbury Park (right next door to our studio) is happening in August, hosted by our fave DJ Peggy Gou. You’ll get your live music and night club fix all in one day.
Rooftop Drinks, Finally
Sure we’ve missed our families, but we’ve missed sitting in a pub garden with a cold beer more. Sorry mum. If you’ve lost all memory of being out drinking on a summer’s evening and don’t know where to go, we’ve got some London recommendations for you.
The Duke of Edinburgh - Brixton
The Crown and Greyhound - Dulwich
People's Park Tavern - Victoria Park
Junction Tavern - Kentish Town
No.90 - Hackney Wick
Food glorious food! We love a good takeaway, and if you’ve read our previous Stay Home Discoveries from the last 3 months, you’ll know that we love deliver-to-your-door meal prep services too, but there’s something different about eating fresh, hot food outside.
One of our favourite places is the food market at the Southbank centre. Grab a bite and sit at (or walk along) the river for a great day out in the city.
We’re seeing glimpses of the sun here in the UK now (hallelujah!) so we’re on the market for a new sunscreen that will protect our skin without weighing us down. We’ve been hearing great things about this one from Supergoop (it’s an influencer favourite). It is completely clear, so no weird white residue - great for layering with makeup and topping up throughout the day.
We’ve had a lot of great music released in lockdown, and the new Brockhampton album is no exception. Self professed ‘world’s best boyband’ and favourite around the W&M studio, we can see this being prominent on our summer playlists. We love single ‘Count On Me’ as well as the A$AP Rocky feature.
If you hadn’t guessed, we’re getting more and more into horoscopes - we’re millennials after all. This new podcast by Spotify gives daily insights based on your zodiac. These are great, two and a half minute nuggets of advice and motivation to get you started in the morning.
We’re still missing the cinema, but we’re having fun catching up on some movies that have been released in the past year. 2020’s Sofia Coppola directed On The Rocks starring Radisha Jones opposite Bill Murray has us wishing that we lived in upstate New York. It's a comedic and emotive representation of the complications of family dynamics and visually gorgeous.
‘Van Gogh Alive’ at Kensington Gardens
Can’t remember the last time you went to an art exhibition? Us neither, but this seems like a good place to get back into it. The multi-sensory exhibition is open in London as of this week. We’re very excited about the Sensory4 ™ gallery; a fully immersive experience combining visual and audio to bring some of Gogh’s most famous works to life.
We'll be back with more recommendations soon!
