This Week's Discoveries: 01/10/21

This week, we've got a few cinema trips in the calendar (including the new James Bond) in addition to dinner at a few of London's most hip places right now. We're also getting sucked into our new favourite true crime podcast. Read more some inspiration for what to do October.

If you’ve been on Instagram in the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen someone posting about this place. Even though it’s been a blogger’s favourite for a while now, it’s having a bit of a resurgence and we can see why.

Full of Italian charm (and decorative bottles of alcohol) this is the perfect place to go for a special occasion, date night or to simply catch up with friend. The food is great, it’s not too pricey and you can guarantee a great atmosphere. But be sure to book in advance.

Now that many of us are getting out on the town of a weekend, the need for a late night bite is back. But instead of going for a greasy kebab or heading to a deserted McDonalds, us Londoner’s can now head Duck & Waffle at any hour.

Yes, the famous restaurant has brought back it’s 24hour service which was paused during lockdown. The late night menu (served from 12am - 5am) includes breakfast classics like Eggs Florentine, indulgent Truffle Fries and of course, Duck & Waffle. All great hangover food if you ask me.

Bond fans and Billie Eilish fans unite (if you didn't know, she did the soundtrack). It feels like forever that we’ve all been waiting for ‘No Tie To Die’, and that's because it should've been released back in April 2020. The latest film in the James Bond franchise, and the last with Daniel Craig as the MI6 spy has 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, so should be a fun watch, and one to see on the big screen for sure. A fun film night for the whole family.

If you’re in South London, Vauxhall specifically, you should be familiar with Brunswick House. The venue known for its cosy aesthetic is hosting a range of events this autumn, from jazz nights to wine and cider tastings. Head over to Time Out for a full list of their upcoming events.

Here in the studio, we’re often listening to a true crime podcast as we work, so we know a good one when we hear it. The Killer Book Club follows the case of Peter Farquhar from 2019 and takes the listener on a twisted tale that is almost hard to believe to be true.

From famed writer and director Steve McQueen comes a five part film series Small Axe that came out last year. The series of films illustrates a story of oppression of London’s West Indian community during the 1960’s to the 1980’s, starring some familiar faces too, with the likes of Letitia Wright and John Boyega in it's cast.

If you’re a record collector, head to the newly opened Third Man Records in central London. From White Stripes frontman Jack White, the store, an extension of the musician's independent music label, promises to have a selection of limited edition presses and obscure finds, so there’s really no room for posers here. Great if you’re in the market for gifting a true music lover or just want to find something completely unique.
